Fireworks and Tubing and Hiking, Oh My!

While the end of the first week of camp was wrapping up, CNS campers and staff were gearing up for a action-packed weekend!

To celebrate the Fourth of July on Saturday, campers and counselors had a lazy morning sleeping in and then spent the rest of the day at a Fourth of July carnival! Among the many activities to choose from, there was face painting, nail painting, a game of battleship on the volleyball court (which involves throwing water balloons into canoes) and other field games, karaoke, bandana tie-dying, and a red, white and blue pinwheel scavenger hunt (which Jeru cabin won!). After an eventful day of fun, we headed down the road to Poland Spring Resort to watch fireworks.

Sunday was another action-packed day as campers headed off on their first off-camp trips of the summer! Paris and Tokyo cabins hiked a trail and explored the waterfalls at Step Falls in Newry, Maine. Jeru, Berlin and Stockholm visited Sunday River and took a chondola (a mix between a chairlift and gondola) up the mountain to rock-climb, bungee trampoline and hang out in the Adventure Park. The rest of the cabins spent the day tubing down the Androscoggin River. All in all, an exciting day that led to many happy and tired campers returning back the camp that evening.

Monday kicked off week 2 of session 1, so campers began their new classes and got back into the CNS weekday routine. We rounded out the day with a great game of an old camp favorite, Ultimate Sicko Ball! A kind of 4-way Capture the Flag, Ultimate Sicko Ball brought out the competitive spirit in our Red, Blue, Black and Green teams, and each of our teams did an awesome job working together!
